Most men choose a haircut the same way they choose a takeaway order — from a photo that looked good on someone else. It's the wrong starting point.
Start with your face, not your phone
A cut that looks sharp on a square jaw can look wrong entirely on a round or long face. Before you screenshot anything, get honest about your actual face shape, hairline, and how your hair naturally grows — a good barber will factor all three in, not just copy a photo.
Ask about week three, not day one
Any cut looks good freshly done. The real test is how it holds up two or three weeks later, once it's grown out slightly and you're styling it yourself at 7am on a Tuesday. Ask your barber directly: how does this grow out, and what does it actually take to maintain day to day?
Maintenance is part of the decision
A sharp fade with a textured top looks fantastic — and needs product and five minutes of styling every morning to look that way. If you're genuinely not going to do that consistently, a lower-maintenance cut that still looks deliberate will serve you far better than a high-maintenance one left undone.
Find one barber, not a new one every time
Consistency matters more than most men think. A barber who knows your hair, your history, and what's worked before will get you a better result than the best barber in the city who's cutting your hair for the first time.
The goal isn't to look current. It's to look like you decided on purpose.
